June 5th, 2014

Man, not so great yesterday.  It's only marginally over my goals, but it's really amazing how small differences add up over the course of the day.  Today, it was rainy so I got a ride to work from Jobim - that means I didn't get my usual 17 minute walk from Kendall square to work in the AM.  I did, however, walk from work to the subway.

Activity: Again, less active today than I was yesterday.  I didn't go for a run and I didn't walk as much as I usually do.  This is definitely furthering my resolve to stand at my desk more often than I sit at it!! Tomorrow I'll plan on biking to work and then I'm paddleboarding with a friend after work.  Hopefully that should make up for it.

Calories: Yep, not a great day. But that's okay! I knew going in that today would not be my most active day, so I tried to take in fewer calories.  At HubSpot that's sometimes a tough thing to do - there's free food at every turn! A lot of free food was left out at lunch, but I only took the salad instead of any of the extra fixin's.  I also made a point to have a quarter of a cookie instead of a whole one (like usual).  So, small difierences in my day.
As for dinner,Jobim wanted to get takeout but I wanted to try my darndest to eat light that evening.  So instead of pizza we got sushi.  For the most part that's a healthy choice in the world of takeout.  Maybe next time I'll try to avoid tempura rolls.  Bonus: we did order all of our sushi with brown rice so that was a win.
The easiest calorie deficit I could have done this evening (and didn't) was avoid my glass of white wine with dinner.  Better to go with water or tea instead.  At 170 calories, this did a lot of push me over the edge of my target goal.  I also have two piece of dark chocolate for dessert, but I'll argue that that's way healthier than a bowl of ice cream.

Takeaway: I did a good job of making compromises today but could do more. It would have been good to take a walk after or before dinner rather than crashing on the couch.  I'll consider today a baseline day for inactivity, and I'll im to make more of an effort at remaining active over the course of my day.  It really DOES make a difference!
