Let's face it, it's been a really really really really really tough winter.  And tomorrow there's supposed to be even more snow.  If you're like me, the usual A.M. granola just isn't cutting it any more, and the very thought of eating something not hot chills your very bones.

Well, never fear, because today you're going to learn how to make the perfect toast and soft-boiled egg (even if you don't own a toaster!).  And you'll finish with time to brush your teeth, blow dry your hair, and put on a sufficient number of layers to brave the frigid outdoors.  Ready?

Recipe: Toast and Soft-boiled Egg

Ingredients:

  • 1 saucepan, filled with 2 inches of water
  • medium baking sheet
  • 1 egg
  • 2 pieces bread (In the above photo I used Udi's Gluten Free bread.  It toasts rather well)
  • butter
  • toast condiment of choice.  I used orange marmalade

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.  Put covered saucepan on high heat until water boils
  2. Butter your slices of bread (I like to do both sides, but one side will do) and place on baking sheet.
  3. When water is boiling, place your egg in the pot.  This is also a good time to put your bread (buns?!) in the oven, it's hot enough.
  4. Set timer for 7 minutes. Go do the rest of your morning thangs, like wrestling your bean boots on your feet.
  5. Time's up? Awesome.  So is your toast and perfectly soft-boiled egg.  Feel the goodness of a hot, warm breakfast.
